Job Description:
2323722 Alberta Ltd. o/a Hong Kong Restaurant is seeking a hardworking and reliable Kitchen Helper to join our busy Chinese restaurant. The ideal candidate will assist cooks and kitchen staff in preparing meals, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring smooth daily kitchen operations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Assist in setting up dining and service areas by bringing clean dishes, utensils, and glassware to the serving stations and arranging tables when needed to ensure smooth service during operating hours.
2. Operate commercial dishwashers to thoroughly clean dishes, flatware, glassware, and kitchen utensils, and wash large pots, pans, and other cooking tools by hand when required to maintain a continuous flow of clean equipment.
3. Clean and sanitize all dishwashing equipment, mats, carts, and waste disposal units on a regular basis to meet hygiene and safety standards.
4. Place cleaned dishes, utensils, and other kitchen tools in designated storage areas in an organized manner to support efficient kitchen operation.
5. Wash, peel, and cut vegetables and fruits as directed by the cook or chef, and assist with portioning, wrapping, and packaging prepared foods or take-out orders according to portion control standards.
6. Prepare basic ingredients, organize supplies, and bring necessary items to the cook’s workstation to ensure timely food preparation and service.
7. Replenish condiments, napkins, and other supplies at tables and serving areas throughout the day to ensure guests always have what they need.
8. Stock refrigerators, freezers, and salad bars with fresh ingredients, ensuring that food items are properly labeled, rotated, and stored at safe temperatures.
9. Receive, unpack, and store incoming food and kitchen supplies in cupboards, storage rooms, and cold storage areas while verifying quantities and reporting any damaged or missing items to the supervisor.
10. Clean and sanitize all kitchen surfaces, cupboards, storage areas, appliances, and equipment at the end of each shift to maintain a hygienic and organized workspace.
11.Sweep, mop, and wash kitchen floors, and polish stainless steel surfaces to maintain a clean and professional kitchen environment.
12. Remove garbage, recycling, and kitchen waste regularly, clean waste containers, and ensure proper disposal according to health and safety regulations.
13. Handle and store cleaning products safely and follow established procedures to maintain a safe workplace.
14. Sharpen kitchen knives and ensure that all tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored for daily use.
15. Assist with clearing and cleaning tables, trays, and chairs in the dining area during busy periods to support front-of-house staff and maintain a pleasant dining environment for guests.
16. Perform other related duties as assigned by the cook or kitchen supervisor to ensure smooth daily restaurant operations.

Job Requirements:
1. Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience
2. Experience in a restaurant setting will be an asset
3. The position requires working in a fast-paced and busy kitchen environment where attention to detail and efficiency are essential. The Kitchen Helper must be able to handle physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy items, standing for extended periods, and performing repetitive motions throughout the shift. The role also involves working under pressure during peak service hours while maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, organization, and accuracy in all tasks.
4. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, and able to multitask effectively in a team-oriented setting. A positive attitude, initiative, and strong sense of responsibility are key qualities for success in this position. The Kitchen Helper should demonstrate reliability, adaptability, and a customer-focused mindset while contributing to a cooperative and supportive work environment.
