Job description:

We Thousand Spices located at 9240 34 Ave, Edmonton, Alberta is looking for ONE Retail Supervisor position. We are a South Indian Specialty grocery and food store which has been proudly serving Albertans since 2010 and now have two locations in Edmonton. We are looking for an energetic individual who has the ability to supervise our 9240-34 AVE location. This is a permanent full-time position. We would like this individual to start as soon as possible. The individual must be flexible, possess excellent oral communication and effective interpersonal skills, must be client focused, reliable, flexible, organized, and accurate and be a team player.

Our Salary: $22.00 / hour

Over time: After 40 hours is 1.5 times the salary - $33 per hour

​The EMPLOYEE shall be entitled to 2 day(s) off per week, on Saturday and Sunday

Permanent, Full time: 40 to 44 hours / week.

Language requirement: English

Employment conditions: Early morning, Morning, Day, Evenings, Weekends, Nights, Overtime, On-call, Shift Work.

Ability to Supervise: 3-4 people.

Transportation/Travel Information: Public transportation is available.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Fast-paced environment, work under pressure, tight deadlines, handling heavy loads, combination of sitting, standing, walking, and standing for extended periods, bending, crouching, and kneeling, and attention to detail. 

Work location information: Urban area, on-site customer service, retail business, wholesale establishment/store.

Employer covers the relocation costs

Vacation: 10 days of paid vacation each year.

The individual must be able to:

• Hire and train or arrange for training of staff.
• Order merchandise.
• Establish work schedule and assign sales workers to duties.
• Authorize payments by cheque.
• Authorize return of merchandize, sell merchandize.
• Prepare reports on sales volumes, merchandizing, and personnel matters.
• Supervise and coordinate activities of workers.
• Resolve problems that arise, such as customer complaints and supply shortages.
• Organize and maintain inventory.

Additional Skills: Knowledge about South Indian Food Culture and grocery items is definitely considered as an asset.

We require the individual to speak English and have a minimum of Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. The individual must have 3-5 years of experience as a Supervisor in Retail Services in a similar setting. The individual must be able to supervise 3-4 workers. The individual will be supervising mostly grocery clerks/shelf stockers/retail salespersons/sales clerks/cashiers. The individual is expected to work in our fast-paced environment and under tight deadlines.
