Hours per week: 35 (8:30-16:30)

This is an opportunity for the right person to demonstrate their talent. You will be responsible for ensuring that all of your tasks are carried out with excellence, professionalism and in a timely manner.

 

The main duties of a Ship Agent in the Vancouver region are executing and coordinating all activities for assigned vessels at various ports as well as other related duties:

 

- Vessel scheduling & emergency contact (24hr on call while in port).
- Overseeing and coordinating all activities for vessels while in port, including boarding and husbanding vessels (all necessary arrangements and co-ordination pre and post vessel's arrival to ensure a smooth and effective port call)
- Order pilots and linesmen
- Coordinate and update all parties concerning all activities related to vessel and its operations
- Proper filing of pre-arrival and transit notices, obtaining custom's clearance
- Work with principals, terminal operators, stevedores, port authorities, government officials and other parties to ensure safe and efficient practices
- Act as a liaison between the Ship’s Master/Crew with government authorities, local pilots, terminal operators, port authorities, stevedores, etc.
- Preparation, submission and monitoring of estimates and port disbursements
- Prepare and secure cargo documentation, i.e. SOF, NOR, B/L, etc.
- Setup and close vessel files/voyages
- Approve invoices for payment
- Assist with crew-change and crew-transportation (use of company van)
- Assist in the delivery of owners’ items to vessel

 

The right candidate will possess the following skills and qualifications:

 

- High school diploma (College degree/diploma or equivalent; Marine Transportation Certificate an asset)
- Expertise in marine shipping/local experience preferred
- Minimum 3-5 years industry experience, specifically related to handling of dry bulk, tankers and container ships 
- Strong decision-making capabilities and high accountability for achieving individual and shared goals
- Knowledge of and experience in satisfying regulatory requirements with ability to recognize changing legal trends
- Readiness to continuously focus on identifying and meeting customer current and future needs
- Ability to provide alternatives and optimized solutions to the Customer
- Demonstrate autonomy, team spirit, flexibility and judgment
- High level time management, communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work outdoors and on different work shifts
- Adhere to and promote health and safety guidelines in the workplace
- Language of work (written nd spoken): English
