WANTED: ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN (LEVEL 2)

Position: Accounting Technician (Level 2)

Employment Type: Permanent/Full-time

Number of Opening: 1

 

Work Location: #101 - 8811 Laurel Street, Vancouver, BC V6P 3V9

  • Work must be completed at the physical work location.
  • No remote or hybrid option is available for this position.

 

Wage: $36.60 per hour

Hours: 40 hours per week

  • Must be available to work on ALL weekends.

Job duties:

  • Maintain accurate monthly accounting records, including general ledgers, trial balances, and preparation of interim and financial statements.
  • Post journal entries and perform daily, monthly, and periodic reconciliations for bank accounts, cash, credit cards, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
  • Prepare, review, and reconcile GST/HST and PST returns, ensuring compliance with applicable Canadian tax regulations.
  • Process, code, and review accounts payable, credit card expenses, vendor payments, and monitor and reconcile accounts receivable.
  • Maintain amortization schedules, review capital expenditures, and reconcile capital assets, capital leases, and loan accounts.
  • Prepare monthly store performance reports, quarterly financial statements, and perform financial analysis to support business operations and decision‑making.
  • Design, maintain, and enhance management and operational reporting, including the use of Power BI dashboards and advanced Excel-based reporting tools.
  • Use Power Query and advanced Excel techniques to automate data extraction, transformation, reconciliation, and reporting processes.
  • Apply advanced Excel skills such as complex formulas, Power Pivot, PivotTables, data models, and scenario analysis to support financial reporting and analysis.
  • Assist with the implementation, configuration, and ongoing optimization of accounting and reporting systems, including documenting procedures and improving workflows.
  • Identify, design, implement, and revise accounting and reporting procedures to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of the accounting function.
  • Work collaboratively with internal departments and external parties to resolve discrepancies, respond to financial inquiries, and support operational needs.
  • Assist with month‑end and year‑end close processes, including preparation of working papers and schedules for internal review and external auditors.
  • Support audit and review engagements by responding to auditor inquiries and preparing required documentation.
  • Assist with cash flow monitoring, including tracking inflows and outflows and supporting short‑term cash planning activities.
  • Participate in or lead meetings related to accounting, reporting, or process improvement initiatives, as required.
  • Plan and deliver training for newly hired accounting staff, including onboarding, system usage, reporting processes, and internal procedures.
  • This position leads training for new hires and therefore requires strong practical knowledge and experience across accounting, reporting, and systems.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Language: English
  • Education: Completion of 2 years of post‑secondary education in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 4 years of relevant accounting experience
  • Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.
  • Must be available to work on ALL weekends.
  • Technical & Professional Skills:
    • Strong working knowledge of full‑cycle accounting in a Canadian environment
    • Proven experience with Power BI for financial and operational reporting
    • Hands‑on experience with Power Query and data transformation workflows
    • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, including data models, Power Pivot, complex formulas, and PivotTables
    • Experience implementing, revising, and documenting accounting procedures
    • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and support multiple entities or locations
    • Strong attention to detail with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non‑technical stakeholders
