Grewal Sweets is hiring a full-time Kitchen Manager to support daily kitchen operations and maintain our high standards of food quality and consistency. The Kitchen Manager will be responsible for preparing meals according to established recipes, maintaining food safety standards, and contributing to an efficient and well-organized kitchen environment. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about cooking, work well in a team setting, and are comfortable in a fast-paced food service environment.

Responsibilities

 

  • Oversee day-to-day kitchen operations, ensuring all food preparation and cooking activities run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate the operations of the restaurant, including dine-in, takeout, and production of sweets and meals in accordance with daily demand and special orders.
  • Coordinate catering orders, special event orders, and bulk food requests when required.
  • Monitor kitchen workflow to ensure timely preparation, proper presentation, packaging, and delivery of all food products and menu items.
  • Ensure all food is prepared and stored in compliance with BC food safety regulations and health standards.
  • Monitor and control food and labour costs, assist in budget preparation, negotiate with suppliers for procurement of ingredients and kitchen supplies, and implement strategies to minimize waste and maximize profitability.
  • Conduct regular inspections of kitchen equipment, workstations, and storage areas to maintain cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Implement and enforce food handling best practices across all kitchen staff.
  • Monitor portion sizes and taste to uphold consistent product quality.
  • Supervise, schedule, and coordinate kitchen staff including cooks, helpers, and production workers.
  • Assist in the recruitment and hiring of kitchen and front-of-house staff, and oversee employee training, and performance to maintain high operational standards.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback to kitchen team members.
  • Resolve staff conflicts and maintain a positive, productive work environment
  • Coordinate with health inspectors and regulatory authorities as required.
  • Assist in menu planning, including seasonal sweets, snacks, and meal offerings.
  • Assist the General Manager in daily business operations, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and special order requests in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assist with vendor relations, supplier communications, and procurement of kitchen supplies.
  • Prepare basic operational reports and communicate key updates to management.
  • Ensure the kitchen and front-of-house areas meet all municipal health, safety, and business licensing requirements
  • Uphold company policies and procedures at all times and lead by example.

 

Qualifications and Competencies

 

  • Completion of secondary school is usually required.
  • Several years of experience in food preparation or food service is required.
  • Passion for fresh ingredients and high-quality food preparation
  • Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, food safety standards, and hygiene best practices
  • Knowledge of best practices in kitchen management and food safety
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral.
  • Customer service skills - exceed guest expectations.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must work well within a restaurant team culture.
  • Flexibility with working hours, including availability for weekends, evenings, and holidays.
