Responsibilities

Tasks

  • Plan, organize, direct, control, and evaluate the daily operations of a restaurant, bar, cafeteria, or other food and beverage service establishments.
  • Determine the type of services to be offered by the establishment and implement standard operational procedures.
  • Modify procedures and prices based on regular evaluations of revenue, food trends, and customer demands.
  • Recruit and hire front-of-house and back-of-house staff, and actively oversee comprehensive employee training programs.
  • Set staff work schedules to optimize daily coverage while managing labour costs.
  • Monitor and evaluate staff performance, providing coaching, feedback, or disciplinary action as necessary.
  • Control inventory levels of food, beverages, and restaurant supplies to minimize waste and ensure consistent stock.
  • Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly revenues and manage operational budgets.
  • Negotiate arrangements with suppliers for food products, beverages, equipment, and other essential restaurant inventory.
  • Resolve customer complaints efficiently to ensure a positive dining experience and maintain the restaurant's reputation.
  • Ensure health and safety regulations are strictly followed, including food handling, sanitation guidelines, and local workplace safety laws.
  • Ensure compliance with liquor regulations and responsible beverage service laws (especially true for managers of bars or establishments serving alcohol).
  • Negotiate arrangements with clients for catering services, special events, or the private use of facilities for banquets and receptions.
