Sheet Metal Worker

Overview

Employment Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in sheet metal fabrication.

Education

  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate

Experience

  • 2 years to less than 3 years

Work Location

  • On site
  • Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and HVAC plans to determine ductwork layouts, dimensions, and installation requirements.
  •  Measure, mark, cut, bend, and fabricate sheet metal ductwork, fittings, and ventilation components using hand tools, power tools, and metalworking equipment.
  • Assemble and install duct systems, including supply, return, and exhaust ducts, in residential and commercial buildings.
  • Install sheet metal components such as plenums, elbows, transitions, dampers, diffusers, grilles, and air distribution systems.
  • Secure ductwork using appropriate fasteners, hangers, brackets, and supports to ensure structural integrity and compliance with building codes.
  • Seal duct joints and connections using approved sealants, tapes, and insulation materials to prevent air leakage and improve system efficiency.
  • Modify, repair, or replace damaged or existing ductwork during HVAC renovations, maintenance, and retrofit projects.
  • Coordinate with HVAC technicians, project supervisors, electricians, plumbers, and other trades to ensure the efficient installation and commissioning of HVAC systems.
  • Inspect completed installations to verify proper alignment, airflow, and compliance with project specifications, building codes, and safety standards.
  • Operate fabrication equipment, including shears, brakes, rollers, notchers, and power tools, to produce accurate sheet metal components.
