Main Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Review and analyze project blueprints, structural drawings, formwork and shoring drawings, and specifications to determine material and labour requirements.

  2. Create precise layouts for walls, columns, slab edges, openings, and embedded components from control lines, gridlines, and benchmarks, in compliance with building codes, project tolerances, and industry standards, using measuring tools, levels, and laser equipment.

  3. Measure, cut, and shape materials, including wood, wood substitutes, and other construction materials.

  4. Construct, erect, align, plumb, and brace vertical concrete formwork systems, including wall, column, and core forms and gang-formed or panelized proprietary forming systems, ensuring proper reinforcement, alignment, bracing, shoring, and structural integrity.

  5. Erect and cycle horizontal formwork, including slab and beam formwork and flying table systems; install shoring and reshoring in accordance with engineered drawings and pour schedules.

  6. Install embeds, blockouts, sleeves, keyways, waterstops, anchor bolts, and other cast-in components to structural drawings; monitor formwork during concrete placement and respond to movement, leaks, or misalignment.

  7. Strip formwork in accordance with stripping schedules and engineering direction; clean, repair, and maintain forming materials and re-erect forms for subsequent pour cycles.

  8. Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, and erect walls and roof systems, incorporating concrete and other materials as required.

  9. Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moulding, and hardware.

  10. Maintain, repair, and renovate existing structures, including residential, commercial, and industrial properties, with a focus on concrete formwork and related components.

  11. Coordinate and collaborate with other construction professionals, such as other tradespersons, crane operators, and site supervisors, including assisting with the hoisting and movement of forming materials under direction, to ensure project success.

  12. Monitor and maintain inventory of construction materials, formwork components, and tools, ensuring the proper equipment is available for each project.

  13. Ensure adherence to safety protocols and procedures, including safe work at heights and the proper use of personal protective equipment and fall protection.

  14. Train, supervise, and mentor apprentices and other construction workers.

 

Wage/Salary: $39.00/hour

Benefits: Extended Health Benefits available after 3 months of employment

Hours Per Week: 40 hours per week

Terms of Employment: Full-Time, Permanent

Location of Work: Reporting to 656 Leg in Boot Square, Vancouver, BC, V5Z 4B3, to be dispatched to job sites across the Lower Mainland of British Columbia.

Skills Requirements

Education: No Minimum Education Requirement

Work Experience: Must have at least 3 years of work experience as a carpenter in a non-labourer role, including verifiable work experience as a carpenter on cast-in-place concrete structures.

Skills/Licensing:

  • Demonstrated ability to independently read and interpret construction blueprints, structural drawings, and formwork and shoring drawings, and to determine material and labour requirements from them.

  • Demonstrable proficiency with hand and power tools used in carpentry, including circular saws, mitre saws, drills, nail guns, hammers, levels, and measuring devices.

  • Verifiable work experience constructing, erecting, aligning, plumbing, and bracing vertical formwork systems (walls, columns, and/or cores), including gang-formed or panelized proprietary forming systems.

  • Verifiable work experience with horizontal formwork (slab and beam formwork), including installation of shoring and reshoring, and the stripping, cleaning, and cycling of forms.

  • Working knowledge of concrete placement pressures, bracing and shoring requirements, and formwork tolerances, including the ability to monitor forms during pours.

  • Verifiable work experience framing walls, floor systems, and roof systems, including installation of floor beams and subflooring.

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate work with other tradespersons and site supervisors on active construction sites.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in all weather conditions and at heights.
