What We’re Looking For

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Assistant Veterinarian to join our emergency care team. The ideal candidate brings sound clinical judgment, a strong commitment to animal welfare, and the ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced environment. You should be comfortable assessing urgent cases, making timely clinical decisions within your responsibilities, and collaborating with colleagues to deliver attentive and effective patient care. Job Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive physical examinations and order/interpret diagnostic tests to identify illnesses, injuries, or abnormal conditions in patients.
• Utilize advanced diagnostic tools, including X-ray, ultrasound, and in-house lab testing, to support rapid and accurate decision-making in emergency cases.
• Provide immediate treatment for critical patients, including prescribing medications, stabilizing fractures, dressing wounds, and performing emergency or scheduled surgeries.
• Administer vaccinations and develop preventative health plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
• Deliver a full range of veterinary services, including dental procedures, reproductive health care, and humane euthanasia when required.
• Educate and counsel pet owners on nutrition, preventative care, post-treatment recovery, and ongoing wellness.
• Address client concerns with compassion, professionalism, and clear communication, especially in high-stress situations.
• Collaborate closely with veterinary technicians, assistants, and support staff to deliver coordinated, high-quality care.
• Mentor and support team members through training, feedback, and skills development.
• Maintain meticulous medical records and ensure compliance with veterinary ethics, best practices, and clinic protocols.
• Oversee the overall operation of the animal clinic, ensuring smooth day-to-day functioning and high service standards.
• Uphold the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control within all treatment and recovery areas.
• Participate in professional development activities to stay current with advancements in veterinary medicine.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent.
• Valid licence to practice veterinary medicine in British Columbia, or eligibility to obtain one.
• Strong diagnostic skills and sound clinical judgment to assess patients and make timely, informed treatment decisions.
• Commitment to high standards of veterinary medicine, animal welfare, and professional ethics.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain clinical findings and treatment options clearly and compassionately to pet owners.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize competing demands and remain focused under pressure.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with veterinarians, technicians, and support staff in a fast-paced emergency care environment.
• Compassionate approach to patient care and sensitivity to the concerns of families facing veterinary emergencies.
