Title of position: Personal support worker, for private home
We are seeking a compassionate, dependable and physically capable Personal Support Worker to provide personal care, companionship and mobility assistance to an elderly woman with a disability in her private residence in North York. The elderly care recipient has mobility limitations and requires assistance with daily living activities. She is approximately 5 feet 1 inch tall and weighs approximately 53 kg (117 lbs).
The caregiver's primary responsibility will be to assist the elderly individual with personal care, safe mobility and everyday activities while maintaining her comfort, dignity, independence and well-being.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide personal care, companionship and daily assistance to an elderly woman with a disability.
- Assist with mobility-related activities, including walking, standing, moving safely around the home and other daily movements as required.
- Provide hands-on mobility support appropriate to the care recipient's physical condition and abilities.
- Assist with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting and other aspects of personal hygiene.
- Provide bedside and personal care as required.
- Assist with regular exercise, including supervised walks and gentle physical activities appropriate to the care recipient's condition.
- Assist with medication reminders and medication-related tasks as directed, within the caregiver's permitted scope of duties.
- Monitor the care recipient's physical and emotional well-being and report any changes or concerns to family members.
- Provide companionship, conversation, emotional support and assistance with recreational activities.
- Accompany the elderly individual to medical appointments, community activities and outings as required.
- Plan, prepare and serve nutritious meals, including meals that accommodate prescribed dietary requirements.
- Assist with eating and drinking when necessary.
- Shop for groceries, medications and household supplies as required.
- Launder clothing, bedding and household linens.
- Perform light housekeeping and cleaning duties related to the care recipient and her living environment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, comfortable and supportive home environment.
- Ability to safely provide hands-on personal care and mobility assistance to an elderly individual weighing approximately 53 kg (117 lbs).
- Ability to assist the individual with walking, standing and other movements required for daily living.
- Ability to perform physically demanding caregiving duties, including standing, walking, bending and assisting with personal hygiene.
- Knowledge of safe mobility assistance techniques and proper body mechanics.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and provide physical support throughout the workday.
Physical Requirements
Terms of Employment
Employment Type: Permanent, full-time
Hours: 30 hours per week
Work Schedule: Morning, daytime and evening hours, with overtime as required.
Wage: $21.00 per hour
Public Transportation: Available
Work Location: Work must be performed at the employer's private residence. Remote work is not available.
Employment Requirements
Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent.
Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years of previous caregiving experience.
Languages: English
Criminal Record Check: Required.
Personal Qualities: Compassionate, patient, reliable, attentive, respectful and capable of providing safe personal care to an elderly person with mobility limitations.
Relocation: Relocation costs, if applicable, will be covered by the employer.
