Job Description
- Prepare fields and growing areas for planting, crop production and harvesting activities.
- Plant seeds, transplant seedlings and assist with establishing new crops.
- Cultivate soil, remove weeds and maintain growing areas throughout the production cycle.
- Water and irrigate crops and assist with maintaining irrigation systems.
- Thin, trim, tie and support plants to encourage healthy growth and improve crop quality.
- Spread compost, fertilizers and other soil amendments as directed.
- Monitor crop growth and assist with crop care and maintenance before harvesting.
- Prepare and organize harvesting tools, crates, containers and other farm supplies.
- Harvest vegetables and other crops by hand according to crop maturity and harvesting schedules.
- Examine crops for quality, maturity and readiness for harvesting.
- Sort and grade harvested produce according to size, quality and condition.
- Separate damaged, spoiled and unsuitable produce from marketable crops.
- Wash, clean and pack harvested produce for storage, transportation and sale.
- Fill, carry, stack and transport harvesting bins, containers and crates.
- Load, unload and transfer harvested produce, equipment and farm supplies.
- Handle and store harvested crops carefully to prevent damage and maintain product quality.
- Remove leftover plants, roots and crop debris following harvesting activities.
- Clear harvested fields and prepare growing areas for subsequent planting cycles.
- Assist with soil preparation and field maintenance between growing and harvesting periods.
- Clean and maintain harvesting tools, farm machinery and equipment.
- Operate farm machinery and equipment as instructed.
- Clean and maintain packing areas, storage facilities and other farm workspaces.
- Assist with maintaining drainage systems, irrigation lines and field pathways.
- Prepare planting materials, supplies and equipment for upcoming crop production activities.
- Assist with protecting and maintaining crops during changing weather and growing conditions.
- Follow workplace safety procedures and perform other general farm duties as required.
