Job Duties: 
1.Responsible for planning and implementing an appropriate activities that follow the children’s interests, and support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development,
2. Observe and assess children’s progress and behaviour to ensure programs meet identified individual and group needs and complete developmental profiles.
3. Bathe, diaper and feed infants and toddlers, prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods
4. Respond with sensitivity to the needs of individual children and their families, respecting diversities in age, sex, developmental level, religion, sexual orientation, and cultural background.
5. Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest, report accidents, incidents and occurrences
6. Participate in maintaining accurate and complete records and other administrative tasks, including up-to-date records for legislative and regulatory purposes, cleaning procedures, Daily Health Check, facility maintenance and safety checks, a child’s daily log and daily communication book, ect.
7. Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts, provide opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity,
8. Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits, Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties,
9. Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor,
10. Design, arrange and maintain a safe, orderly, appealing, and developmentally appropriate program space, plan and implement enriched programs in accordance with curriculum objectives, developmentally appropriate practice and program philosophy
11. Conduct daily health check of children; record illness and inform Supervisor; contact parents as necessary
12. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children,
13. Meet with Supervisor to discuss recommendation of referral of to outside agencies for special needs and submit written observations on children
14. Participate in parent/teacher interviews, parent meetings, and social events in the centre, assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members
15. Familiar with Day Nurseries Act and licensing regulations, establish and comply with guidelines for behaviour
16. Supervise and co-ordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants, provide training to the new hire staff
17. Participate in the annual evaluation process and set goals for the following year and actively involved in professional development

 

Qualifications:
1. Completion of College Diploma in childhood education is required
2. 1-2 years of Early Childhood Education experience is required
3. Experience with special needs children, including Children with a physical disability, Children with an intellectual disability, Children with behavioural issues, Children with allergies, Children with asthma
4. Registered Early Childhood Education Certificate in Ontario is required
5. Food allergy and anaphylaxis training, First Aid Certificate, CPR Certificate is Preferred
6. Ability to exercise patience when interacting with children
7. A caring and approachable nature
