Job description:


 Job Title: Crane Operator (NOC 72500)

 

             Job Duties:

  • Operate tower cranes to lift, move, position, pour concrete, move gang forms, scaffolding, lift placing booms, unload trucks or place equipment and materials, etc.
  • Perform pre-operational inspection and calculate crane capacities and weight to prepare for rigging and hoisting.
  • Operate tower cranes to lift, move, position or place equipment and materials under the direction of assigned rigger
  • Understand and demonstrate Safe work practices.  Refuse lifts where those receiving the lift are not properly prepared with the associated PPE and/or not properly prepared the lift, flight path, or landing areas.  Refuse lifting equipment that has not been properly maintained as reported by their rigger
    • oMissing an ASME plate
    • oPast due on an NDT inspection
    • oImprovised carrying/lifting devices such as a debris bin being used to lift compressed gas bottles or personnel
    • oImproperly rigged loads such as single wrapped chain slings on unsecured lumber, metal, pipes etc
    • oMissing tag lines
    • oA rigger has doubts regarding the lifting points
  • Have read, comprehended, and able to follow the manufacturer’s operations and maintenance manual.  Being aware and understand the maintenance schedule and requirements for daily, weekly, monthly, annual, or time weighted inspection and service requirements.
  • That if the manufacture does not have a schedule of time weighed inspection and service requirements then the minimal requirement is CSA standards (for the year the crane was manufactured or replacement components: mechanical, structural, electrical
    • oBe clear that if there is a requirement described in the regulations the regulation is the “minimum”
    • oRegulations supersede standards
  • Be physically and mentally fit to perform their duties and see to not only their own but the rigger’ s responsibilities
  • Maintain the daily logs: relative topics and hours worked per shift, weekly, and monthly logs with notations when needed
  • Inspect the rigger’ s logs for being up to date, complete, and accurate
  • Read and sign off to the crane operators and rigger’ s logbook safe work procedures and any site-specific safety plans
  • Ensure the rigger and supervisor have signed off to the safe work procedures; both general and site specific prior to commencing work
    • oSuch as communicate via secured two-way radio for any job specific planning such as crane overlap with other machinery
    • Crane operator, rigger, hose for person assessment
    • Emergency DEP Box testing:  preparation of lift, lift, flight path, destination
    • Crane overlap with other cranes
  • Annual requirements for a crane operator: physical, hearing, and vision through certified and/or medical physicians
  • Post incident urine testing requirements are based on the severity and discretion of the employer.

Employment Requirements

  • Minimum Tower Crane “B” operator ticket
  • Minimum Apprenticeship Tower Crane operator status
  • Demonstrate Safe work practices and procedures.
  • 1 year experience
  • Some secondary school education.

Wage Median Requirement: Cad$ 43.00 per hour
