Job description:
Location: Victoria, BC V9B 2Y2
Salary: $20.00 to 27.00 per hour; 40 to 55 hours per week
Overtime: 1.5 times of gross pay after the completion of 44 hours
Vacation Pay: 4% on every pay period
Job Type: Permanent employment, Full time
Job Responsibilities:
- Familiarity with medical terminology and procedures to effectively communicate with healthcare professionals and understand patient records.
- Proficiency in office tasks such as scheduling appointments, managing patient records, organizing files, and handling correspondence.
- Competence in using electronic health records (EHR) systems, scheduling software, and other common office applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff in a professional and empathetic manner.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
- Being meticulous in data entry, documentation, and record-keeping to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Understanding and adhering to patient privacy regulations to protect sensitive medical information.
- Building positive relationships with patients, demonstrating empathy, and providing excellent customer service.
- Being able to handle unexpected situations, work under pressure, and adjust to changes in healthcare policies and procedures.
Eligibility Requirements:
- A high school graduation certificate or equivalent is typically required.
- Solid understanding of medical terminology, office procedures, and medical billing and coding.
- Previous experience working in a healthcare or medical office environment can be beneficial. This may include internships, volunteer work, or previous employment in administrative or customer service roles.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for effectively interacting with patients, healthcare professionals, and colleagues. Clear and professional communication is crucial.
- Being detail-oriented is important in accurately maintaining patient records, processing paperwork, and managing administrative tasks.
- Understanding the importance of patient privacy and adhering to confidentiality regulations, such as HIPAA, is crucial in a medical administrative position.
