Location: Burlington, ON L7L 6W6

Salary: $44.00 hourly/

             35 hours per week

Overtime: 1.5 times of gross pay after completion of 44 hours 

Vacation Pay: 4% on every pay period

Job Type: Permanent employment, Full time 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Creating and designing the structure of databases based on the requirements of the organization, including tables, indexes, and relationships.
  • Installing and configuring database management systems (DBMS) and related software, ensuring they are properly set up and optimized for performance.
  • Implementing and maintaining data security measures, including user access controls, authentication, and encryption, to protect sensitive information stored in databases.
  • Monitoring the performance of databases, identifying bottlenecks or issues, and optimizing database performance through techniques like indexing, query optimization, and server configuration.
  • Developing and implementing backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity and availability in case of system failures, disasters, or data corruption.
  • Managing the migration of data from one database system to another or from legacy systems to newer platforms, ensuring data consistency and minimal downtime.
  • Investigating and resolving database-related issues, such as performance problems, data integrity conflicts, or system errors, to ensure smooth operations.
  • Assessing current and future database storage requirements, estimating growth patterns, and planning for adequate storage and system resources.
  • Documenting database configurations, procedures, and processes for future reference and to facilitate knowledge sharing among team members.
  • Collaborating with development teams, system administrators, and other stakeholders to understand database requirements, resolve issues, and ensure effective communication and coordination. 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field is typically required. 
  • Relevant work experience in database administration of 3 to 5 years. 
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of database management systems (DBMS) is essential. Experience with popular DBMS platforms such as Oracle, MySQL, SQL, or PostgreSQL is often required. Familiarity with database concepts, SQL (Structured Query Language), and data modeling is important as well.
  • Proficiency in database administration tasks, such as database installation, configuration, and maintenance, is necessary. Knowledge of performance tuning, backup and recovery, security management, and database troubleshooting is also important. Additionally, an understanding of operating systems, networking, and storage technologies can be beneficial.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve database-related issues effectively. One should be able to analyze performance metrics, troubleshoot problems, and optimize database performance.
  • Good communication (English) skills are essential for collaborating with development teams, system administrators, and other stakeholders.
