Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

Large workload, Bending, crouching, kneeling, Tight deadlines, physically demanding, Combination of sitting, standing, walking, Overtime required, Handling heavy loads

Duties:

• Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to ascertain specifications and calculate requirements
• Prepare design according to building codes, using measuring tools
• Measure, cut, design, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
• Build foundations, basement, install floor beams and erect walls and roof systems
• Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, etc.
• Maintain, repair and renovate residential and commercial wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants and other establishments
• May also prepare quotations and provide material estimate to clients.
• Schedule and co-ordinate work on sites, Survey building locations and levels,
• May provide instructions to trainee and supervise other workers.
