Job description:
Location: Niagara Falls, ON L2G 5Z9
Salary: $18.00 hourly for 40 hours per week
Overtime: 1.5 times of gross pay after completion of 44 hours
Vacation Pay: 4% on every pay period
Job Type: Permanent employment, Full time
Job Responsibilities:
- Preparing and cooking a variety of dishes following the restaurant's recipes and guidelines.
- Ensuring that all food items are cooked to the appropriate temperature and are of high quality.
- Organizing and managing kitchen stations to ensure efficiency and timely meal preparation.
- Collaborating with the kitchen team to coordinate meal service and maintain a smooth flow of orders.
- Adhering to food safety and sanitation standards to maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen environment.
- Monitoring kitchen inventory and restocking ingredients as needed.
- Assisting in menu planning and recipe development, if required.
- Communicating with servers and other staff to accommodate special requests or dietary restrictions.
- Being attentive to customer feedback and making adjustments to improve dishes when necessary.
- Keeping up with food trends and continuously improving culinary skills.
Eligibility Requirements:
- A secondary (high) school graduation certificate is mandatory.
- Prior experience of 1 to 2 years in a kitchen or a similar cooking role.
- One must have a good understanding of various cooking techniques, food preparation methods, and kitchen equipment operations.
- Knowledge and adherence to food safety regulations and sanitation practices are essential to ensure the safety and quality of the food prepared.
- The job can be physically demanding, requiring long hours of standing, lifting heavy pots, and working in a hot kitchen environment.
- Effective communication is necessary to collaborate with the kitchen team and communicate with servers or managers.
- The ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment is crucial
- Creativity in food presentation and recipe adjustments can set a cook apart in some establishments.
- The specialization in Canadian, Italian, and European cuisines, as well as expertise in vegetarian and international dishes, is crucial.
