What You’ll Do 

  • Prepare meals in accordance with restaurant’s menu ensuring timely preparation while adhering to specified standards for quality, taste, and presentation.
  • Create a daily prep sheet based on par stocks, inventory levels, and required ingredient quantities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment at all times, upholding high standards of cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Implement and follow all required checklists and cleaning schedules during your shift to ensure food safety and hygiene.
  • Responsible for the care and maintenance of all food service equipment, identifying and reporting any equipment needed for food preparation and service.
  • Perform daily and weekly procedures, including temperature checks, food labeling/dating, and maintaining an organized freezer, fridge, and dry storage area.
  • Ensure adherence to food safety and sanitation guidelines and keep your work area clean and organized.
  • Foster a positive attitude that promotes teamwork among restaurant kitchen staff.
  • Train other cooks at various kitchen line stations, ensuring they follow specified recipes and standards.
  • Prepare and cook full meals or individual dishes, including special meals as directed by the chef.
  • Coordinate and supervise kitchen helpers to maintain an efficient workflow.
  • Take charge of overall kitchen operations, including managing inventory, keeping accurate records of food, supplies, and equipment, and minimizing food waste.
  • Participate in menu planning, portion sizing, estimating food requirements, and cost management.
  • Perform any additional duties assigned by the Head Chef.
  • Assist in the hiring and training of staff in food preparation, cooking, and food handling as needed by management to maintain a skilled kitchen team.

 

Required Education & Experience 

  • High school diploma.
  • Completion of college program in cooking/food safety or Completion of a three-year apprenticeship program for cooks or 2-3 years of commercial cooking experience

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • Passion for fresh ingredients and great food.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral.
  • Customer service skills - exceed guest expectations.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must work well within a restaurant team culture.
  • Should be able to supervise the team in the absence of the head chef.
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and have strong initiative.
  • A positive and team-oriented attitude.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work morning, evening, and weekend shifts as business dictates.
