Position Overview
We are seeking a Financial Officer to join our head office in Kelowna. In this role, you will oversee the full cycle of financial operations, from maintaining accurate records and preparing statements to analyzing results and advising management. The position combines hands-on accounting with strategic financial oversight, ensuring compliance, strengthening internal controls, and supporting long-term business growth. Role and Responsibilities
- Oversee financial operations by ensuring accurate accounting, compliance with corporate policies, and adherence to Canadian accounting standards.
- Maintain and monitor financial records, prepare and interpret financial statements, reports, and summaries to ensure accuracy and transparency.
- Record and reconcile accounts, monitor trial balances, and review ledgers to uphold the integrity of financial reporting.
- Supervise payroll and disbursements, authorizing payments for suppliers, operating expenses, government remittances, and employee compensation.
- Ensure tax compliance by preparing and filing GST/HST, corporate tax instalments, and other regulatory returns.
- Develop and monitor budgets and forecasts, analyze variances, and recommend strategies to improve financial performance.
- Manage cash flow and liquidity, ensuring sufficient resources for daily operations, future investments, and sustainable growth.
- Support internal and external audits, preparing schedules, reconciliations, and ensuring full documentation for review.
- Evaluate and strengthen financial controls, policies, and risk management systems, ensuring accountability and safeguarding corporate assets.
- Identify discrepancies, risks, and opportunities within financial operations and recommend corrective or proactive measures.
- Provide financial advisory support to senior management on profitability, cost control, and expansion strategies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align financial strategies with broader corporate objectives and long-term goals.
Job requirements
- Post-secondary education (degree or diploma) in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related field, or completion of two years (first level) of a recognized professional accounting program (e.g., Chartered Accounting, Certified General Accounting).
- The above education may be substituted with successful completion of courses in accounting or bookkeeping combined with 2–3 years of experience as a financial or accounting clerk.
- Solid knowledge of financial management, bookkeeping practices, and accounting operations under Canadian accounting standards.
- Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting, with the ability to provide insights that support decision-making.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and sound judgment.
- Proficiency in financial software applications and advanced MS Excel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and capacity to identify risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities within strict deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate across departments, support audits, and contribute to the development of financial policies and procedures.
- Flexible and adaptable in responding to cash flow challenges, audits, regulatory changes, and evolving business needs.
- A proactive, ethical, and professional approach, with a strong commitment to confidentiality and integrity in handling financial information.
