Consumer Voice
Consumer Voice is a national advocacy organization dedicated to improving the quality of long-term care and protecting the rights and dignity of residents. We create plain-language resources, run advocacy campaigns, and support families and advocates to advance policy change and better care.
What you’ll do
- Produce high-quality, plain-language content that advances Consumer Voice’s mission, including blog posts, policy summaries, email campaigns, press materials, social media copy, brochures, toolkits, and training curricula.
- Translate complex policy, regulatory, and research material into clear, actionable resources for families, residents, advocates, and policymakers.
- Edit and proofread materials to ensure accuracy, accessibility, consistent voice, and adherence to branding and plain-language best practices.
- Collaborate with policy, advocacy, training, and digital teams to develop content strategies that increase engagement, drive fundraising and advocacy actions, and support grassroots organizing.
- Optimize content for SEO, email deliverability, and social sharing; monitor basic content performance metrics and recommend improvements.
- Manage editorial calendar deadlines, content workflows, and content approvals from stakeholders.
- Serve as a communications point person for projects (media pitches, op-eds, comment letters) as assigned.
Who you are
- 1+ years professional experience writing for nonprofits, public policy, advocacy, health, or related fields.
- Proven ability to convert technical or regulatory material into concise, accessible content for lay audiences.
- Strong editing skills, exceptional attention to detail, and commitment to inclusive, person-centered language.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills for remote collaboration.
- Familiar with SEO basics, email marketing best practices, and social media content formats.
- Comfortable using Google Workspace, WordPress (or similar CMS), basic HTML, and project management tools (Asana, Trello, or equivalent).
- Self-directed, deadline-driven, and able to manage multiple projects with competing priorities.
- Commitment to Consumer Voice’s mission and values; experience in aging, disability, or long-term care advocacy is strongly preferred.
Nice-to-have
- Experience producing multimedia content (video scripts, short explainer videos) or basic design familiarity (Canva, Adobe).
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and plain-language certification or training.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, French, or another relevant language.
Key responsibilities & metrics of success (first 6 months)
- Deliver 2–4 major pieces (toolkits, policy briefs, or campaigns) and 8–12 blog/social/email items that meet editorial standards.
- Increase open rates/click-throughs on priority advocacy emails by 10–20% through revised copy and subject-line testing.
- Produce at least one plain-language resource that becomes core outreach material for advocates and partner organizations.
- Maintain editorial calendar with 90% on-time delivery.
