Job Duties:
- Transport goods and materials safely to designated locations by operating straight or articulated trucks.
- Plan and adjust routes based on traffic, road conditions, delivery requirements, and other changing circumstances using GPS, computer equipment, and other navigation devices to improve efficiency and minimize fuel consumption.
- Maintain accurate records of cargo information, deliveries, fuel consumption, mileage, hours of service, and other required transportation information in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Communicate regularly with central dispatch personnel to receive instructions, provide trip updates, and relay relevant transportation information.
- Conduct pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of the vehicle and equipment, including tires, brakes, lights, refrigeration or cold-storage units, and other components, to ensure they are functioning properly.
- Monitor and oversee the overall condition of the vehicle and its equipment and report or address maintenance and safety issues as required.
- Perform brake adjustments and other minor maintenance tasks to maintain safe and efficient vehicle operation.
- Perform emergency roadside repairs and minor mechanical maintenance when necessary to minimize delays and ensure operational safety.
- Secure and protect loads using appropriate methods, including tarping, straps, and other cargo protection measures, to ensure the safety and security of goods during transportation.
- Respond to customer inquiries, complaints, and concerns and address delivery-related issues in a professional and timely manner.
- Operate as part of a two-person team-driving arrangement or convoy when required to meet transportation schedules and service commitments.
