Title of the Position: Shipfitter
Job Duties:
- Shipfitters fabricate, assemble, fit and install steel or other metal components for ships and other similar structures. They are required to be able to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints to determine the sequencing of work such as cutting, fabricating, installing and welding components on marine vessels.
- Study engineering drawings and blueprints, determine the materials required, and plan the sequence of tasks to cut metal most efficiently
- Construct patterns and templates as guides for layouts
- Lay out reference points and patterns on heavy metal according to component specifications
- Rig, hoist and move materials to storage areas, or within/on marine vessels
- Assemble and fit metal sections and plates to form complete units or subunits using tack welding, bolting, riveting or other methods
- Set up and operate various heavy-duty metal-working machines such as brake presses, shears, cutting torches, air gougers, manual/semi-automatic plasma cutters, grinders and drills, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill or otherwise form heavy-metal components
- Install and weld fabricated components on or in marine vessels
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of piping, cutting, threading, bending and welding pipes, valves and fittings
- Other duties as required
Terms of Employment: Full-time (with the number of hours of up to 45 hours a week), permanent position; expected Start Date: As soon as possible

Compensation and Benefits:
- Hourly Wage: $34.00 – $38.00 per hour depending on experience

Skills Requirements:
- Education: some high school
- Experience: Minimum 3 years relevant work experience OR completion of an apprenticeship program or Equivalent combinations of training + experience will be considered.
- Ability to work independently
- Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints for marine repair and construction and other heavy construction blueprints
- Proven ability to work in confined spaces and heights
- Strong mechanical aptitude
