Are you an accounting professional with an entrepreneurial spirit and enjoy rolling up your sleeves in the day-to-day accounting and financials while fostering and supporting your team and the people around you? On behalf of our client, Domo Gasoline Corporation Ltd. we are currently recruiting a Controller to join their team in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Reporting to the President, the Controller is primarily responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate reporting of the monthly and annual financials.  The Controller will focus on leading, managing, working with and following up with an accounting staff of 8 people to complete the financials.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the daily operations of the accounting department
  • Responsible for all aspects of the accounting operations such as reporting, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, account reconciliation, payroll, budgeting, revenue and expenditure variance analysis and capital assets reconciliation
  • Prepare monthly, annual and audited financial statements and related government returns
  • Develop and monitor the annual budget including forecasting revenues and expenses, and analyzing variances
  • Establish and maintain proper accounting methods, policies and principles
  • Recommend and implement changes as appropriate to improve internal controls and/or efficiencies
  • Act as a resource and provide assistance and advice to staff with respect to financial issues and the interpretation of financial reports
  • Maintain, evaluate and recommend improvements to the accounting systems, and internal controls of the company
  • Coordinate the year-end audit process including the review and/or preparation of working papers, schedules, analyses and other required documentation
  • Manage financial banking and external professional relationships
  • Lead, manage and assist the staff by gaining a strong understanding of their tasks to effectively monitor their progress
  • Perform special assignments and any other duties as required
  • Assist in the implementation of a new POS and accounting software system
  • Manage the RRSP/DPSP Plan and Employee Benefits
  • Act as a key member of the Senior management team to achieve Domo’s overall strategic goals

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of recognized accounting designation (CPA) or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of financial management experience with supervisory experience
  • Strong IT and POS systems background
  • Able to work independently and work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with others
  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical and technical skills
  • Exceptional time-management and organizational skills
