Job Description
- Hand-pick cherries carefully from trees during harvest season, ensuring fruit is picked at the correct stage of ripeness and handled gently to avoid bruising or damage.
- Use ladders and picking buckets to harvest cherries from different heights, maintaining balance and working efficiently throughout the day.
- Sort and grade cherries in the field or packing area based on size, color, and quality standards. Remove any damaged, overripe, or defective fruit.
- Weigh and pack cherries into designated containers or boxes, ensuring proper arrangement to prevent crushing and maintain product quality for market.
- Carry, lift, and transfer full picking buckets into larger bins or crates, and assist with loading and unloading produce for transportation.
- Assist with orchard activities such as pruning cherry trees, thinning excess fruit, tying branches, and removing weeds to support healthy crop growth.
- Support irrigation tasks by helping set up watering systems as directed by the supervisor.
- Operate basic farm equipment such as tractors or utility carts, when required and trained, to move cherries, bins, and supplies within the orchard.
- Clean and sanitize picking containers, bins, and work areas regularly to maintain hygiene and quality standards.
- Perform general orchard cleanup including removing fallen fruit, clearing debris, and maintaining tidy rows.
- Follow all safety procedures, especially when working on ladders and handling loads, and use protective equipment as required.
- Work closely with supervisors and team members to meet daily harvest targets during peak cherry season.
